Veterinary Assistant

We are currently looking for an Experienced Full Time Veterinary Assistant

     We are in search of a Veterinary Assistant. A person with energy, self-motivation, high ethical standards, who is thoughtful, compassionate, thorough and has a good sense of humor. 

     We are one of the largest, full service small animal hospitals in the Capital District.  We currently have 10 doctors and over 60 staff.  We care for about 22,000 pets from 13,000 families.  We see about 120 patients and perform 10-15 anesthetic procedures a day.  We strive to provide the best of care for every patient.  We act as a referral hospital for some diagnostic and surgical procedures for other local hospitals.

Full time position includes days, evenings, weekends and holidays a must.


Job responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:

  • Basic Nursing Care (feeding, cage cleaning, walking)
  • Animal handling
  • Client education
  • Administering oral & topical medications
  • Boarder admissions
  • Exam room assistant
  • Patient preliminary workup
  • Cleaning ears
  • Pedicures
  • Assisting & anticipating the needs for Doctors & technicians
  • Surgical discharges
  • Surgery prepping & monitoring
  • Laboratory
  • Run in-house blood panels & CBC’s
  • Set up fecals
  • Set up urines
  • Radiology assistant
  • Assisting with chemotherapy, endoscopies, physical therapy & ultrasounds
  • Pharmacy (restocking & filling prescribed medications)
  • Therapeutic grooming & bathing
  • Cleaning & stocking of appropriate areas
  • Overall cleanliness of the facility (sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, empting trash, & disinfecting all surfaces using appropriate cleaning agents)
  • Maintain all areas in a manner that is free of odor & fire hazards
  • Maintain patience & self-control while handling all animals
  • Marking cage cards with adequate information
  • Appropriate use of personal safety devices
  • Practice good customer service skills
  • Job Specifications:

                    Education – High School Graduate

                    Licensure – None

                    Experience – prior experience helpful but not required

                    Skills – basic computer skills helpful

                    Physical Effort – Lifting & carrying up to 40lbs, bending, pulling, & standing for periods are required
